Whether you have a brother, sister, father, mother or spouse in the military, it’s a wonderful feeling for them to receive something from the world that they call home. Whether your military family member is in basic training or deployed overseas, a simple note of compassion can go a long way. Discover ways to keep in touch with your family member in the military and let them know that you are thinking about them.
Regularly send something. For someone in the military, receiving mail is similar to the feeling of Christmas. You can send cards, letters, notes, pictures, gifts or care packages on a regular basis. Care packages are wonderful because you can send non-perishable foods that can remind them of home. Remember to send things during the holidays.
Take advantage of technology. What’s a faster way to get a message across? Consider sending an email or a message on a social networking site. Use social media to your advantage. You can both have blogs that talk about your daily lives. That way, you can both feel connected to one another. You can also have a web cam chat and meet online. The possibilities are endless, particularly for long distance relationships.
Visit whenever possible. Depending on where your military family member is, you may be able to visit them. Some are allowed free time on the weekends on a domestic base. Take advantage of this free time and visit your loved one.
It’s possible to keep in touch with your family member in the military. It may take some time and effort, but it’s most certainly worth it in the end. Have your military family member feel special by paying attention to them when they are away. Let them know that you miss them and that they’re on your mind.
