Style Guide

NZAFLR citation follows the Australian Guide to Legal Citation published by the Melbourne University Law Review Association, which is available on-line as a PDF document.

NZAFLR does not however italicise statutory instruments or place the suffix (NZ) at the end of NZ statutory instruments.

Ideally, articles should use only one level of headings which is to be left justified and in bold, with the first word initial letter capitalized only. Footnotes are to be used in preference to endnotes.

Editorial policy

All contributions which concern the law affecting the armed forces, which meet NZAFLR’s high standards as to quality, will be considered for inclusion. However, where the space available in NZAFLR does not permit the publication of all contributions, which satisfy these standards, the following subject area priorities for publication in any year shall apply:

(a) Priority 1 Contemporary New Zealand military law, New Zealand or international law concerning the use of armed forces (including the Law of the Sea as it impacts on maritime forces).

(b) Priority 2 Other areas of New Zealand law as they affect the Armed Forces.

(c) Priority 3 New Zealand military legal history.

(d) Priority 4 Contemporary military law of other States or foreign domestic law concerning the use of armed forces.

(e) Priority 5 Other contributions.
